What we’ve done so far

Aki Ra Was The first person to clear landmines in Cambodia

From 1990 through 2008, before the existence of NGOs Aki Ra cleared landmines by himself using homemade tools, wearing no safety equipment and doing it without salary or pay.

In total he destroyed:

22,459 anti-personnel mines (APM)
4,213 anti-tank mines (ATM)
29,758 unexploded ordinance (UXO)
597 kg of small arms ammunition
196 kg of metal spike traps
198 machine guns, artillery etc
99 US bombs
59 Soviet Union bombs

Later he formed a team and together they cleared 9,771,363 m2 (~ 1,300 football fields) of land safe from landmines. Between 2008-2024 they located and destroyed another 7,098 APMs, 73 ATMs and 18,0333 UXOs which included rockets, mortars, artillery and grenades.

Relief Center

The Relief Center goes back to Aki Ra’s original museum. He found child victims of landmines after the fall of the Khmer Rouge. It was then that he had the idea to bring these children to his home and raise them as his own.

The Relief Center closed in 2018. Children residing there who had families returned home where they are now attending school. Children without families have been placed in licensed residential facilities to attend school and those old enough for university have their education supported by scholarships.

As soon as we have the funds, we will be reopening the program to continue taking care of children in need.

Rural School Village Program

Aki Ra’s mission didn’t stop with rescuing children but turned into a program dedicated to educate. RSVP has built over 20 schools and given more than 3,000 children the chance to learn.

Villagers helped build the schools using local materials while donations covered essentials like uniforms, books and bicycles.

Same as with the Relief Center, more schools will be built once we get the funds to do so.

Thanks for your support!

We couldn’t have done what we did without the help of our visitors, supporters and donors!
